Stutthof

You know, like Museum Auschwitz or Museum Bergen-Belsen.

Just so you know, last night a friend made what he said was a snarky remark about Poland and the Holocaust, and today I’m going to assign blame for any snarkiness on my part to him.

Here Stutthof is a German Concentration Camp, as opposed to a Nazi Concentration Camp.

Directly across from the exit, I mean directly, so it’s what you can’t avoid seeing as you exit the concentration camp, is this billboard. Because after you’ve seen where people were tortured and murdered maybe you’d like to relax at the spa? Go horseback riding?

In two days many Americans will be casting ballots, others burning sage, donning copper bracelets, saying the rosary or praying to Ganesha. Locating the possessors of and learning how to effectively contest the exercise of state power seems daunting sometimes. I also recognize what an incredible luxury it is to be able to walk this perimeter, through what is now forest to what was the gate to the Focke-Wulf plant, rather than be imprisoned in Oranienburg or Montgomery County.
