The Revolution comes to Ocean Beach

At least a hundred protesters trudged through the sands of Ocean Beach for the third week in a row on Sunday, honoring the life of George Floyd in a recurring memorial stroll that also called for an end to police brutality.…

For many of the people there, it was one of the first protests they had attended in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. Some said they were unable to go to the demonstrations downtown and this was the first one they heard was taking place in their own neighborhood.…

“I think I saw something about this on TV and thought, wow, that’s really close to our house,” said Richard Drury, a San Francisco resident. “We thought it was especially important to show up today.”…

Even as the sky grew dark and a brisk chill ran through the air, people continued marching for at least an hour. A man with a portable speaker in his backpack began to play Gil Scott Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” and people wordlessly raised their fists into the air. Some had tears in their eyes as the lyrics echoed throughout the street.

„The revolution will be no re-run, brothers. The revolution will be live.“
